There are many times that we get that invite in the mail...A wedding, A graduation Party, 40th, 50th or 60th Birthday Party...Anniversary Party...
Seems awesome when we get it a month or so before the event. But then...
We get busy, life gets in the way. Work gets in the way, finances get in the way...
We make excuses. And many times we justify, and do not attend.
A few years back, I was debating wether or not to attend a funeral for a man that I worked for when I was a college intern, A good friend once told me that his Dad always told him that it is "Important to participate in Ceremonies"
I went to the funeral. This man was a retired Air Force Pilot, Retired State Investigator and a fun guy. I expected hundreds of people. There were perhaps 20.
I was stunned. Then I started to think. He had no kids, His wife and brothers all passed before him. Many of his Air Force buddies had passed or may not even have known about his passing...And I suspect, many people were too busy.
I left that day, glad I went to pay my respects, glad I was there for a man I respected. And yet, saddened that there were so few people in attendance.
I went to a Fantastic wedding this weekend. Drove 5 hours with my family.
The young bride and groom were radiant. He is a Navy Pilot. Dress Whites. 12 men in Uniform raised their swords as the new couple left the church.
The Father of the Bride gave a toast that made everyone cry. We danced, cried and laughed all night
If you were too busy to be bothered, you missed out.
Cermonies are important. Ceremonies mark the transitions in life. Take part in the ceremonies of life.
